5 Mistakes You Need To Avoid When Cleaning Your Pool

With today's access to the internet, you can easily find all the answers you need. And if your problem is about cleaning your pool, it's only a few scrolls and clicks away. You can find a ton of reliable sources on how to effectively clean and maintain your crystal clear swimming pool online.

With that, you as a pool owner might already have a regular pool cleaning routine by now. Cleaning your own pool is a tough job and might even be a risky one. Especially if you're not quite familiar with how pools should be maintained, you cleaning your own pool might even cost you more bucks for repairs. And there might be a few pool cleaning practices you might have been doing the wrong way. So here, I listed some of the common pool cleaning mistakes you need to avoid.

1.) Not using a leaf rake

Most of the pool owners use leaf skimmer and not leaf rakes. This is one of the most common mistakes in pool cleaning. A pool skimmer can only let you grab debris that is floating in the water and not those that have sunk at the bottom. That is the reason why a leaf rake is much better to use. It basically can do a lot more things than a skimmer.

2.) Using an automatic pool cleaner in pools with algae

Algae is a common occurrence with pools especially when it is heavily used. One of the biggest cleaning mistakes is when you use automatic pool cleaners in a pool with algae formation. It will only spread the algae in the filter systems, bouncing it back to the pool. Automatic pool cleaners are great to use for keeping your pool clean, but not for pools that are required to be "vacuumed to waste". So for pools with algae formation, it's best to get rid of them manually.

Tip: Do not use nylon brushes in cases of black algae formation, as they can't remove it properly. Instead, use a stainless pool brush for thorough cleaning.

3.) Forgetting to brush your pool

Because cleaning your pool can be tough, in most of the time you resort with only vacuuming your pool and skipping the brushing part. That is a very common mistake which should be avoided. Pools should be brushed regularly, at least once a week. Automatic vacuums cannot dig in the corners of the pool and most importantly, cannot remove stubborn dirt and algae. Only brushing can do it. Brush the sides and bottom of your pool. Drag everything into the main drain.

Tip: Do not use a stainless pool brush in weekly cleaning because it's too abrasive, use a pool brush with PVC bristle instead.

4.) Not checking you skimmer basket

Most skimmer baskets tend to float up when the pump is turned off. The problem is in most of the time, the skimmer basket continues to float even when the pump is turned back on. With this, debris is sucked underneath and clogs the line. So it is important to check your skimmer basket regularly too.

5.) Shocking your pool in daylight

In case you didn't know, the sun burns chlorine. So in the event that you decide to shock your pool, always remember to do it at night. Those that I have mentioned are just some of the most common mistakes pool owners tend to do in cleaning pools. Now that you know these tips, you can clean your pool efficiently and effectively! Remember, proper maintenance is very important to make your pools last a long time. Do a regular cleaning routine and remember that quality cleaning is vital. It's best that you can consult a professional pool cleaning service from time to time to check your pool.

Behind The Blogger: You Don't Know Me

Well, isn't that something to say to my readers. Honestly, I'd hope you knew a little about me by this point. But this is the topic I'm given this week. I'm really just going to wing it...

I guess, if we look at it from the surface, you don't really know me. You only know what I tell you. And you assume it to be true. That's the problem with social media these days, isn't it. Or maybe it's always been a problem, way back to when it was cool to be in a Yahoo or AOL chat room. You never really knew who you were talking to.

So why do we put so much trust into those people we follow online? Why do we care what other people claim to be, or claim to be doing?

So, I'm going to go over some things you may not know about me.

You don't know me. You don't know what I stand for, politically and socially. Unless you follow me on social media, you may not know that I'm a supporter of #BlackLivesMatter. You may not know that my husband is black. My daughter is mixed, yet looks white (blonde hair, light skin). My son is hispanic, though he doesn't look it, either. So I guess they'll be saying "you don't know me" in their life as well.

You don't know me. But I consider myself a feminist. I am a supporter of equality for all. Whether it is for love, marriage, jobs, pay, etc. But don't get it twisted, you shouldn't get $15 an hour unless you EARN it. Sorry, not sorry.

Unless you've followed me for a while, you don't know that I have a thing called degenerative disk disease in my lower back. Pretty self-explanitory isn't it? The disks between the bones in my spine are deteriorating. And its extremely painful. I have pinched nerves. I get pain down my hips and legs. I can be walking and then all of a sudden stumble because my right leg likes to give out from time to time from the pain. So if I'm walking with a limp, that's what it is.

I'm an open book. So if you want to know me, all you gotta do is ask.

You don't know me.... but I invite you to know me. I'm a pretty cool person.

Can You & Your Partner Be Just As Loved Up As Before You Had Kids?

As a parent, your kids always come first. This means that sometimes your relationship can be put on the backburner. It’s easy to assume that post-children, your relationship has to change and won’t be as romantic as before. While this can be the case, it doesn’t necessarily have to be. There are plenty of couples who have young children and are just as loved up as they were before.

Want to know what the secret is of being as happy in your relationship after having kids as you were pre-children? Keep reading for everything that you need to know.

Eat separately from your children

eat seperate.jpg

Sometimes it’s nice to eat separately from your children. Give your kids their dinner earlier and then once they’re in bed, you and your partner can have dinner together. Making time for yourselves is important, as else your relationship will break down. Every second of every day can’t revolve around your kids, the two of you need time for yourselves as well.

So that the two of you can eat alone each night, consider using a meal delivery service. This would make it much easier to cook yourself and your partner a meal, as all you'll need to do is throw it all into the pan and cook it. No messing around slicing things up or weighing stuff out, everything will already be done. The great thing about eating once the kids are in bed is that you can have an adult conversation and some time to relax.

Go on dates

A couple of times a month, go on a date with your partner. Hire a babysitter for the kids or send them to their grandparent's house for the day, and plan a date for you and your partner. This can be a day date or an evening date, either way; it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that you and your partner get the time to have fun together.

Go for lunch at your favorite restaurant, see a movie, or go and do something spontaneous, just make time to date on a regular basis. You’ll find that if you do, your relationship is healthier and happier for it. It might take some planning but make sure to make time for dating. Ask any marriage counselor and they’ll tell you just how important having alone time is for you and your partner.

Don’t allow your kids to sleep in your bed

sleeping child.jpg

It’s an easy habit to get into, but if you want to have a healthy relationship with your partner, your kids can’t sleep in your bed. They have their own bedrooms for a reason, and it's important to realize that. Intimacy is a big part of having a healthy relationship and something that’s impossible if you’re sharing your bed with your little ones. That’s why it’s important to keep your kids out of your bed as much as possible. So that you’re able to be intimate with your partner.

If you want to ensure that post-children your relationship is just as healthy and happy as before, take note of the tips above. The most important thing is to ensure that you and your partner are able to have time to yourself on a regular basis. So going on regular dates is a must.

What do you do to ensure that you and your partner are spending time together?

Does Your Phone Have a Cracked Screen? Me Too.

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, sponsored content or reviewed products. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own. I would never suggest anything to you that I wouldn't use myself. -Jennifer

I have had my iPhone 6 for a little over a year. I've done really good with keeping a nice protective case on it, and even using ballistic style screen protectors. They're supposed to protect your phone screen from breaking. The cover would crack, not your phone. I've used quite a few over the past year or so that I've had my phone. They've been wonderful to me! I'm super clumsy and things just fly out of my hands at times.

Well, I dropped my phone, and the case I had was pretty (it's a selfie light case) and not protective. At least not to the degree my other cases are. Well, there was a small rock. And of course, my phone hit it. The rock hit just below the coverage area of the screen protector. And there on my beautiful phone was a few cracks that went up the front of the phone. Nothing too horrible. I could totally live with it until my contract is up in March and I can get a new phone. So I took the case off my phone in order to put a more protective case on it. My daughter grabbed the phone off the counter and tried to hand it to me. But I wasn't ready, and she let go too soon. It fell, in slow motion, screen first on the floor. I knew in my heart, I just already knew, that the crack got worse.

So now, my iPhone that's less than 2 years old has a spider web crack in the bottom left inch or so of the screen.

So now, do I get a new phone? Insurance will cost me about $150. I have less than a year, 8 months to be exact, until I get my new phone. So I'm going to try to hold out.

But maybe you can't! If your phone is cracked and you want a new one, check out a site like Gazelle.

CNET has noted that Gazelle is a great place to buy a certified pre-owned phone. Read the article here:

Getting Your Kids Ready For A Party: Tips And Tricks

Getting your kids ready for a party can be so much fun, but also a little stressful. You want them to look great, but you also need to bear in mind that they are kids. They’re probably going to be playing, getting hot, and maybe even getting dirty. So, what can you do to make sure you get it right? These tips and tricks will help you:

Get Them To Bed Early

Your kids will likely be ridiculously excited knowing that they are going to a party the next day. This means you should probably get them to bed early on. You’ll give them more time to drop off, and they’ll wake up refreshed and raring to party! You’ll be able to get them up early enough to take your time too, without them being grumpy.

Prepare In Advance If Possible

If you can, prepare certain things in advance. Maybe you could put your little girl’s hair in a plait, or lay out the outfits and other things you might need. You’ll have less to think about the next day.

Give Them A Good Breakfast

A good breakfast is really important on the day of the party. It’ll energize them so they are full of beans. Plus, you know what kids are like. They might get so caught up in playing and having a blast, that they simply forget to eat. They’ll be doing a load of running around too, so they need plenty of energy.

Find A Hairstyle That Won’t Get In The Way

If you have a son, this may not be a problem. However, little girls are a bit more difficult. It would be lovely to have their hair down, but this could easily get in their way and make them even warmer. Instead, try to come up with a hairstyle that looks cute but won’t necessarily fall out all over the place. Updos and braids are perfect. You could even just put them in a headband.

Layer Their Outfits

Layering their outfits allows you to add layers or take them off as you need to. If you won’t actually be at the party, make sure they are able to do this themselves. You don’t want them to get too hot, as they can easily become dehydrated. Elf925 children’s silver jewelry could really set the look off.

Take A Change Of Clothes

You know your kids better than anybody. If they have a tendency to spill food and drink down themselves or get dirty, consider taking a change of clothes. If your kids are quite young, you need to be prepared for any accidents too. Try not to tell them off if they do get dirty. All kids need to have a good time!

Let Them Have Some Say In The Matter

If they are old enough, consider letting them have a say in what they wear. This can be good for their development and give them a sense of who they are.

I hope these tips have helped you. Leave your own tips or thoughts below and make sure you visit again soon!

Make the Switch to BODYARMOR Sports Drink - Get a Coupon!

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, sponsored content or reviewed products. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own. I would never suggest anything to you that I wouldn't use myself. -Jennifer

I know many people today prefer healthier options for all their food and drinks. Whether they have allergies, or just want to live a healthier lifestyle, people are making the switch to choose healthy and natural products free of GMOs, sugars, artificial colors, etc.

What about your sports drinks? Have you changed those out? My son loves sports drinks. But they contain a lot of sugar, and he has ADHD so we try to avoid sugar. Especially being in Arizona - the last thing we want is more sugar. But of course, as most kids, he doesn't want to drink plain old water. He wants a flavor. But those flavor add ins are NO better! What's a mom to do, right?

Get to Know Everything about Jpeg - Myths and Facts

JPEG image format is called joint photographic experts group. It is a portable and advanced type of image that is being used widely. Since it has lossless image compression algorithms. It is preferred by most of the industries.

These algorithms compress the gray scale continuous tone of the images, keeping the specifications of the color intact. A very minute amount of image quality loss happens during the process, which is almost negligible.

However, these algorithms make the jpeg file more portable and transferable from one system to another. The size of the file is not too heavy and a huge amount of pictures can be stored. The raw versus JPEG controversy has been going on since photography was invented. Most professional photographers always shoot in RAW while some prefer it in Jpeg according to their requirement.
