Throwing A Classy Party For Your Friends: Tips And Tricks

Throwing a classy party for your friends can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Anybody can throw a classy party, so don’t feel put off if you don’t have much money to play with. This can be a great way to bring all of your friends together after some time apart, celebrate a special occasion, or for no reason at all. These tips and tricks will help you all to have the best time. Enjoy!

Choose The Most Suitable Venue

A classy party always starts with a suitable venue. You don’t need to spend a fortune on the venue if you haven’t got the budget. In fact, many venues will allow it for free if you have a confirmed number of people attending. You can even invite people to your home for the party, as long as you’re prepared for the clean up afterward. Make sure it’s easily accessible for your guests and matches the classy theme that you’re going for.

Set The Tone With The Decor

Make sure you set the tone for your party with the decor. Depending on the venue, you may not need to do much at all. However, it won’t hurt to hang some banners and maybe display some flowers. If you’re going for a classy party with a theme, you could choose something along the lines of the Great Gatsby to help you decorate.

Consider Hiring A Caterer

A caterer will be a big expense, but it’ll be worth it when you can save time making all of the food and drink yourself. Having food made and served by somebody else might even make the event feel a little more special.

Make Sure You Have Enough To Drink

Having enough to drink for your guests is what having a party is all about. This might not be a problem if there’s an open bar at your venue. However, if you’re partying at your own house, stocking up is important. Maybe invite your guests to bring a drink of their choice too, if you’re worried about running out. To find the best drink for your party, you can start with this Kikori review to help you.

Set A Dress Code

Something that will really make your party stand out is having a classy dress code. Make sure you include this on the RSVPs or invites so that everybody knows what to wear. You can still have a classy party with a smart casual dress code, but dressing up can make it lots of fun.

Create A Classy Playlist

Before the party starts, create a classy playlist to help set the tone of the night. If you prefer, you could buy a CD or find a ready-made playlist. Make sure the music matches the mood of the night you’re trying to create.

I hope you like these tips and tricks and they help you to throw an amazing party that everybody enjoys. Remember, personalizing your party to make it suit you and your guests is the best way to make it fun.

My Inner Nerd... #BehindTheBlogger

My inner nerd isn't so "inner" LOL. You can ask my husband, I frequently show my inner nerd. She jumps out and shows herself often. Like when we found out about why Hodor only says Hodor, and then when he died. And when Wun Wun died, too. That inner nerd shows herself often.

What type of stuff am I into... Well, Twilight, Sci-Fi shows and movies on the Sy-fy channel like Face Off (that stuff is really cool), some of the other shows on it are great, too. I'm into supernatural, paranormal type shows on History Channel and Destination America - stuff like Ghost Adventures. I'm into random shows like Orphan Black on BBC, Obviously Game of Thrones. I'm sure there is so much more that I just can't think of. Marvel movies (though I never was a fan of the comics... but are the movies really nerdy? Probably not).

I have to say, I don't typically read the books of shows I like..... Well, let me think about that... I started reading the books True Blood was based off of after I got into the show. I did the same with Twilight.. And now doing it with Game of Thrones... Well OK. I guess I could have nixed this whole paragraph... LMAO.   But yea, I had heard of Game of Thrones and wasn't sure if it was something I'd like. But when we got DirecTv last August, I decided to go ahead and download all of the first 4 seasons and binge watched them in about a span of two weeks. Then waiting for this season to start was torture, and now that its over there's a whole 'nother year I have to wait! ugh. Also, I read online that there is MAX two seasons left in Game of Thrones, and that both of those seasons may be shorter than the typical 10 episodes.. Ugh. But anyways, I decided to go ahead and read the books that Game of Thrones is based on. To hopefully get more insight, see what twists and turns the books have that the TV show didn't, or vice versa. It's fun for me to read a series this way because I know what everyone looks like, and I can picture them, and the scene in my head. For me, that's more fun than being disappointed by what I envisioned when reading the book before the show.

(on another note, Orphan Black is only supposed to have one more season! Noooo!) SO

I really love looking at folks who cosplay. I can't even come close to making my own costume, but I think it's awesome. The amount of work that people put into their costumes is CRAZY! At one point there was a reality show on TV, I can't remember which channel, but it followed some cosplayers getting ready for Comicons, and then if they won in the contest they entered while there. It was pretty cool to watch the process.

There's one I follow on Instagram, and I REALLY love seeing her costumes, and she's funny, her name is itsrainingne0n on Instagram (that last 0 has to be a zero or you'll get someone else!). Crazy enough, I have never been to Comicon.... I really want to go. But it seems to sneak up on me each year! I'm hoping to pay attention and buy tickets to go next year!

What else makes me nerdy? Hmm... Does listening to old Mama's and the Papa's songs make me nerdy? No? Just weird? OK. I'll take that, too.

What's your inner nerd secrets?

Drinking Water: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Have you ever thought about what comes out of those taps? Should you really be drinking that water, or it could potentially be damaging your health? Today, we’re going to take a brief look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of drinking water.

The Good

To ensure that your drinking water is safe, you should be checking a local water safety report. That’ll tell you everything you need to know about whether the water is safe for consumption or not. Still, safe drinking water can come equipped with contaminants. Don’t underestimate the importance of water filter solutions. This will remove those impurities from the water, making it safe to drink for everyone. You still must maintain filtered water properly by changing the filters every now and again. Otherwise, bacteria can creep in and cause all sorts of health worries once more.

The Bad

While bottled water might seem like a great idea, it isn’t always the safest option. Contaminants can still be found in bottled water, no matter what brand you buy. Also, you can’t get accurate water reports about it, so you’re taking a risk in any case. It’s arguably better than drinking water straight out of the tap but filtered still wins this round. Don’t be fooled by some pieces of advice, either. For example, Fluoride can be good for an infant, but too much tap water that is infested with it is bad. There’s also a trend amongst people to use old water bottles again and again. This isn’t a good idea, as bacteria can easily grow. Instead, use a BPA-free bottle to carry water.

The Ugly

So, what happens if you suffer health effects from drinking contaminated water? There are a wide variety of symptoms that could experience based on the contaminants that are found. This includes generic symptoms like headaches and vomiting. There are also more dangerous effects like reproductive issues and lasting illnesses that can arise. To combat against this, you should never drink from the tap if there is a known issue with the water in your area. You’ll normally be informed about this ahead of time, but periodically check by yourself. You might just miss the memo, and you’ll get ill as a result.

What’s The Verdict?

We’re not here to try and scare you! Drinking water is perfectly fine to drink in 99% of cases, whether it’s from a tap or a bottle. It shouldn’t be something that has to play on your mind because it’s simply not that dangerous. You have to be aware that problems can arise, though. If you want to ensure maximum reliability, it’s always beneficial to filter that water. It’s the only way of ensuring that you won’t suffer from any adverse effects. As we mentioned, though, you must maintain that filtering system properly.

I bet you didn’t realize how complicated drinking water can be, right?! Make sure you’re drinking plenty of it on a daily basis and keep safe using the tips we’ve mentioned today.

Adoramapix - Review

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, sponsored content or reviewed products. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own. I would never suggest anything to you that I wouldn't use myself. -Jennifer

I've posted about Adoramapix before (see post here), I'm really a fan of their products. They print excellent photos on beautiful mediums such as metal, canvas, and traditional paper. Now they're promoting their metal prints in shapes! You can find traditional square and rectangle shapes, even circles and ovals. But what about Hexagons? I don't think I've ever seen anything on anyone's wall in their home that was hexagonal. So I'm super happy to have this hanging on my wall.

VivaRoses - Flowers Delivered Straight from the Farm!

I love having flowers in the home. I think that fresh flowers liven up the room, and brightens up the day. Waking up and watering them (and talking to them) is something I remember my mom doing when I was a kid. I don't often have fresh (and real) flowers, but it is something I'm trying to do more of.

When they contacted me to see if I'd like to work with them, I, of course, said yes! I chose Summer Luvin' - a beautiful bouquet of yellow and pink roses. I selected a date for them to be delivered after we returned from our weekend vacay to Rocky Point, Mexico.

VivaRoses has a super cute story of how they began.
(click the image to read it!)

They have a variety of flowers on the website, all of which would be great for any occasion (wedding, birthday, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, or just because). Whatever the reason, whoever receives them will be totally in love with them.

Remember When.... #BehindTheBlogger

I don't even know how to start this post. I actually started writing it two weeks before its "due" to go up on the blog. So this post may just end up being my thought process. I might just leave it all in if it's good. Hey, it just may make a great post!

I'm wondering what exactly should I remember? I feel like I can't really write this like others can because my whole adult life I've been a mom, and I'm only going on 30. So while I feel like I haven't lived much, I've also seen quite a bit in 30 years. Technology has grown SO much. But, I don't really know what to write about. (future note: I'm afraid that once the kids are grown and gone that I'm going to have a hard time. I don't know how to be just 'wife' and not mom....)

Review: Oz Naturals 2.5% Retinol Serum

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links, sponsored content or reviewed products. Regardless, all opinions expressed here are my own. I would never suggest anything to you that I wouldn't use myself. -Jennifer

I'll be 30 this year. I'll admit, that up till recently I haven't taken care of my skin the way I now wish I would have. I wasn't necessarily taught what to do, other than to wash and moisturize. But now I realize that during my 20s I should have been doing so much more. So, better now than never!

I've tried a variety of Oz Naturals products. I have had no complaints so far with any of their products. This one is no different. This is a 2.5% Retinol Serum. Basically, according to Oz Naturals, this is a powerful cocktail of antioxidants combined with Vitamin A to help diminish the appearance of fine lines. While you're probably thinking that I, an almost 30-year-old, don't have fine lines. I am starting to notice them around my eyes a bit. This serum also helps fight free radical damage as well as restores and renews firmness, elasticity, and thickness to the skin, while the Vitamin A boasts a long list of proven restorative, anti-aging, and youth-enhancing properties.

Knife Sharpener and Cabinet Lighting Reviews

 photo disclaimer.png
If you're new to my blog, welcome! If you're new you may not know that I've been to culinary school and I love to cook. So when I got the chance ot review a knife sharpener from E-Prance, I jumped at it. My culinary school knives have only ever been sharpened with my steel (the long thing chefs use with their knives). But it was time for them to get a better sharpen. Plus, my steak knives were starting to get really dull. So I was excited to try this out.

All About Celebrating the Milestones in Your Daughter's Life

It is so important to celebrate the milestones in your daughter’s life; whether they are big or small. They are the kind of things that you will look back on when you remember her growing up. They are things that she will look back on too. So you want her to have happy, fond memories of them. Life goes by too quickly sometimes so celebrating special occasions is important. Why not make the most of them?

the-dew-638110_960_720 (1).jpg

Depending on your lifestyle or religious choices, there may be a celebration when she is younger. There might be a baptism, christening or naming ceremony when she is a baby. This isn’t one of the things that she will go on to remember, but it is a good job we can capture photos of the day! They are all lovely family occasions, though, to celebrate the arrival of your baby. When she gets a little older, there may be the milestone of choosing first communion dresses ready for the event itself. This is another family celebration and the dress itself could become a bit of an heirloom and passed onto other generations in the family. A perfect way to mark the occasion.

Quite a lot of people think that around the ages of eleven and twelve are rather important. So for those birthdays, or even just randomly, it is worth bearing in mind all of the milestones that are coming up. You might not want to admit it at such a tender age, but your daughter is growing up. Think about how you could mark events such as getting her first proper bra or starting her period. She will be growing up fast, and it is important that she feels she can talk to you about these kinds of things. It shouldn’t be anything that she feels embarrassed or awkward about. There are things that would be suitable to get as gifts for her too. Perhaps her first makeup set or a razor to shave her legs with.

As your daughter gets even older, there are plenty of milestones and important dates. Sweet sixteen is a pretty big deal as she will be getting ready to get her driver’s permit. Then there will be first dates and dances at school. Prom is pretty much a big deal, and it should be something to celebrate and remember. Going to choose a prom dress should be something to celebrate together. Then the next big milestones will be things like graduating high school and then going on to college perhaps. So think about all the ways that you could celebrate these momentous occasions with her.

It doesn’t matter what you do to celebrate or mark the milestones. It just matters that you are doing something to celebrate or mark the occasion. Whatever ways you choose to celebrate, just remember that the ways you celebrate will be remembered by your daughter. It shows her how you feel about her but also teaches her the values that you have as a family.

Places to Visit in Arizona During the Summer

For the past few years, people have been doing staycations more and more. While originally it started from necessity, now people are taking staycations as a great, affordable alternative that allows them to visit their area or state.

If you’re here in Arizona, especially in the Valley, you know the temps are brutal. Already this year (2016) we hit 117! It’s only early June! If you’re like me, you’re thinking of ways to escape the heat. For me, my husband and I (along with some friends and family) are going to Rocky Point to enjoy the beach for a weekend. But I get it, some people are afraid of going into Mexico, and others don’t have passports or don’t want to get one right now.

For others, though, they may decide to visit northern Arizona where the temps are much cooler. Of course, obvious choices would be The Grand Canyon and areas near that, but let's not write about what has been written! Let's do something different! In this post, I’ll give some suggestions of places to visit in Arizona during the summer.

A Gift Guide For The People In Your Life Who Have Everything

We all have them, those people that already have everything they need. So how do you get a gift for the people that have everything their hearts desire as soon as they want it? It's not easy, but check out some of the leftfield suggestions below. It could help you solve your dilemma.

Give Personalised

So one way to get a great present for the person in your life that has everything is to give something that is personalized. By providing a personalized gift, the recipient gets something that they can have as a keepsake, and you have shown that you've thought about them.

For your other half, why not try, a personalized print or picture for the home? An excellent example of these is a framed image of a recording of your voice. You can do this by recording a spoken message as a sound wave; then you send it to a specialized company, and they turn it into a decorative print. You could say “I love you,” “always together in my heart,” or your own personal message.
