Feeling, Looking and Being Well-Rested; The Cheat's Guide

Need to give the impression that you got more than enough sleep last night? Read on for a cheat’s guide to getting to sleep, staying asleep and looking super well-rested the next day!

If you still want a cup of tea before bed…
Many of us find having a hot cup of tea before bed part of our evening ritual. In fact, it can feel totally weird going to be without one. However, it could be that having tea before bed is ruining your night’s sleep. The caffeine content might mean that you are unable to fall asleep quickly. It might also mean that you wake up during the night, or are tossing and turning until the morning. You can still have your cuppa with this cheat. Switch out your regular tea-bags with a decaf one. Or, get into the habit of drinking a fruit-flavoured, caffeine-free alternative. That way you get to keep your tradition and enjoy something nice and hot without the night time disturbances. Alternatively, try out some caffeine-free teas that promote a good night’s sleep. There are dozens out there now with ingredients known to be good for slowing down your racing thoughts and helping you nod off. Good ingredients to look out for are lavender and chamomile.

If you want to make it look like you slept loads (when in fact you didn’t!)...
One word. Makeup! Never mind diamonds, makeup is a girl’s best friend when it comes to covering up a late night or early start. When it comes to how to look less tired, it all begins with your skin. A dewy foundation, rather than a matte one, will give you radiance. Swipe on some highlighter over your cheekbones too. If you look a little washed out, a generous dabbing of pink blusher will work well. Go for pink shades over anything else, like red or orange. This is the closest to the color of a natural cheek blush, so will look the most natural. Cover up your bags with concealer, but ensure it is in the right shade, or it will make you look worse. Finally, a good trick is to keep eye makeup minimal. It will draw attention to your eyes, and people might spot bloodshot veins or dark bags. Instead, apply a bright lip. Use a lipliner for a perfect edge, and pick a color that pops. People will then automatically look first at your lips instead. Be sure to keep it in your handbag all day.

If you don’t want to splash out on expensive bedding
There is a rumor going around lately that you need to spend a fortune on your bedding to get a good night’s sleep. Thanks to the rise in popularity of memory foam mattresses and goose-down duvets, it can make your bedding seem utterly shameful.
However, designer brands and modern developments aren’t the only way to get a good night’s sleep. These are the important things. Firstly, your duvet and cover should keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. That’s why cotton is such a good choice for the material of the cover. Things like fleece, velvet and silk can actually play havoc with your internal heating system! Secondly, you may not need to replace your pillows like is so often suggested these days. Did you know that you can put pillows in the wash, no problem? This is a far quicker and simpler way to get yours clean and bouncy again! Spritz on a cheap bottle of lavender scented sleep spray and you’ll be good to go (to sleep!)
