Helpful Tips to Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays

So, now we’re officially into the start of April you should have begun your spring cleaning. After all, now that the weather is getting brighter it’s time to get moving! We can’t hibernate forever, and unless you start making an effort now, you might find yourself living in chaos. It’s so easy to let things slide. There’s never enough hours in the day to get everything done as it is, and by the time you get to the end of your regular daily tasks? If you’ve got any energy left to do anything more than crawl to bed, then you’re doing pretty well. Especially if you have untidy kids. Doing extra tidying up or decluttering may be the last thing that you feel like doing.

It does pay to make the effort, though, because before you know it the holidays will be here. If you receive a lot of guests, and you usually have to spend weeks cleaning before their arrival? Then it’s time for a change. If you get everything in order now, you could be saving time and effort for months to come.

Naturally tidy people don’t live amongst a tonne of clutter. If you like to have all your knick-knacks on display, then why not try cutting back for a while and see how much easier it is. Those fun Christmas ornaments certainly shouldn't still be out in April. So pack them away, so they are ready for you to enjoy again this festive season. A handy tip is to write on the outside of any boxes a list of what they contain. That way, when you go to look for something, in particular, you don’t have to open lots of boxes to find that one elusive thing.

Wash curtains, cushions and any removable covers to freshen them up. Wipe down walls and skirtings and everything will look much fresher. Carpets looking past their best?Rent a shampoo machine and give them a proper wash. If you do this on a semi-regular basis, you’ll extend the life of your floor coverings.

If you want to update the look of your home but don’t have a lot of cash to spare, then it’s not the end of the world. You just need to be creative with what you already have. Try taking all of picture and art from the walls - then rehang them in different places. The difference can be astounding!

If you have a guest bedroom, clear it out now rather than waiting til visitors are imminent. Spare space tends to be a magnet for junk and clutter. All too often that extra space you at a premium for just becomes an overpriced storage facility. Turn mattresses and make sure you have spare linen and towels handy. That way, you’ll be ready for people to come over at the drop of a hat.

If you can keep on top of your home, you don’t have to dread impromptu guests or unannounced visits. It’s always much more enjoyable to live in a clean and tidy environment, too!
