Going to the Park; A Liv On Life Book Review

I was recently lucky enough to receive an adorable book that reminded me to take time and smell the roses. Could you believe it's from a kids book? Yea. A children's book reminded me that I need to step away from the computer (yikes!) and put down my cell phone, and to stop pinning on my Kindle, and to just enjoy the day. Especially with my kids. Can you imagine growing up with your parents constantly on a computer or iPhone? Telling you to "hold on a minute sweetie". I don't want them to remember that. This book put a really cute spin on that for me.

Read more about this great book and the other titles in the series below the jump!

This book is adorable, and when I read it to my kids for the first time, my son, who is 10, pointed out that I am like the mom in the story. She's too frustrated with traffic to notice the pink roses or the puppy in the car next to them. She is too caught up to just enjoy what's around her. I know that I've done that. I've heard myself say, "one minute" for about 10 minutes. Then I realize what I'm doing can wait. I realized that the kids needed me, for whatever reason, more than I needed my phone. These days, there isn't a parent who can't relate to this in one way or another.

We're all guilty of this. What has electronics done to us? This book, meant to be an adorable kids book, ended up teaching me, a 28-year-old woman, a lesson. How crazy is that?

The main character, Liv, and her dog Bowie.

A little about the books.

"Going to the Park is the first title in the Liv On Life Series (LOL), which features Olivia (aka Liv) and her best friend, Bowie, a Boxer dog.  Liv is the go-to-girl for kids and parents looking for advice on how to navigate our modern, technological world.  Going to the Park tells the story of Liv and Bowie recognizing that Mom and Dad need a break from the stresses of work.  Liv and Bowie convince their Mom and Dad to put down the technology and head out for a fun day at the park!"
 About the Artist.

"As an artist I (Elizabeth) have been creating my entire life—with paint, film (Footloose, Teen WolfMax Headroom), and words.  The LOL book series is inspired by my daughter, Olivia.  When Olivia was barely three-years-old I began to record the wisdom and advice that she would spontaneously deliver to anyone who was listening.   I dubbed this collection “Liv-Isms” and each book in the LOL Series is based on these utterances.  The message is clear…in a high-tech and fast-paced world, kids are still the best teachers.  In encouraging my own daughter to embrace and use her authentic voice, I have realized how much adults can, and must, learn from the purity and honesty of a child’s perspective.  Olivia and I work side-by-side on the series and are having a blast doing it!"

The intro of the parents. The lines on these two pages hit my heart.

The back cover.

I want to say, this book helped my daughter, Bella, learn a new word. I've posted it before (I think) that my Bella is in speech therapy because she isn't saying as many words as she should be at her age. Thankfully the insurance pays it 100% (whew). When we first received this book, she was really excited as she loves books. But she pointed to the dog. She hadn't learned that word, though she knows what dogs are. I told her, "that's a dog". Then she said it. She said, "dog". So now, she brings me the book and says "dog, book". She loves pointing to the dog on each page and finding the dog hiding in the car on the traffic page. :D

I can't wait to check out these upcoming titles! I can't wait to see what else is in store for Liv!
