Piercing Babys Ears... To Do It, or Not To Do It?

I'm so undecided.

I didn't get my ears pierced as a baby. But I did struggle when I did get them done later as a kid. I had them done with gold, and then they got infected. We let close, and did it again with gold. Got infected, again. So then we did surgical steel, and its been smooth sailing since.

My daughter is about to be 11 months next week. At first I said I wouldn't pierce her ears. But then I think back to when I had mine done, and quickly wish I could forget about it! The chances today that she would not want her ears pierced when she is older is slim. Back when I was a kid, many kids had it. But today, nearly everyone has their ears pierced. I really want to, but am afraid. It will break my heart to see her cry. But I know it will be short lived. The pain goes away quickly. Especially when you do both ears at once.

Bella would look so cute with her ears done. But what if she pulls at her ears? Do they do that? Do babies stop? How much time do I have to invest in making sure she doesn't pull them out? Does that happen? I would love if some of you can give me your experiences.
