Smart Ones Review

I know, I've been gone for a while. I had a lot of thinking to do about which way I wanted to take my blog, where I wanted to go, and if I even wanted to continue. While being gone, I realized that without me posting, my voice doesn't get heard. My voice doesn't count. And I can't share what I know/learn with all of my readers who are currently subscribed, and the readers who will subscribe in the future. So, I am back. And I plan on revamping everything, including my review procedures for companies that contact me.

Anyways. I want to start of my "return" post, with a review.

I was given two coupons to go try Smart Ones Satisfying Selections by Weight Watchers. I was skeptical at first to even agree to it. But, I figured, why not. I am trying to loose weight, maybe I'll find something that I could really enjoy! I have found, that the box meals that are out for weight loss / portion control are often lacking of taste for me. I went to culinary school after all, if the food doesn't taste good, I'm not eating it.

So, I decided when I was at WalMart doing my weekly shopping, I would look to see what they have. There was quite the selection to choose from.

  • Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo
  • Chicken with Broccoli and Cheese
  • Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry
  • Sesame Chicken
  • Ziti with Meatballs and Cheese.
I decided to try the Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, and the Ziti Meatballs and Cheese.

When I decided to have one, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could microwave it, or cook it on the stove in a pan. Both cooking times were shorter than I expected. For both I ended up cooking them on the stove (note: I did not cook them both in the same day LOL).  The Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo was really good. Much better than I expected. The noodles were cooked thoroughly, none were stiff or hard like I have experienced with other dinners. The chicken was moist, not dry, the sauce was absolutely delicious, and the broccoli was soft and good. I really had no complaints about this dish. It filled me up, and I even had a little left over - I couldn't finish it all. My only wish is that they add a bit more broccoli to it :-) I love broccoli!

A few nights later I cooked the Ziti with Meatballs and Cheese. I cooked it on the stove in a pan, and it was also a short cooking time. I have absolutely no complaints about this dish. It had the right amount of cheese, and plenty of meatballs, and the all were cooked perfectly! Very hearty meal.

These all retail at about $3.69 (but can vary depending on store). The price I feel would be great, if there was a little more food and could feed two. But they are a bit expensive for just one person, and I have my husband and son to feed too. I would definitely use these when there are nights where we all want something different, a "fend for yourself night" (except I usually make everyone's dinners LOL), or a night where I am alone and my sons off at one of the grandparents house.  I do plan on watching for coupons for these, they would make the buy worth it.

(Hint: when you visit the site, you can print off a $1/5 coupon!)
