Review of Immunet online security

I was chosen to review this online security by a company I have not heard of before. Immunet. And it was in perfect timing, as my paid subscription to Norton just ended. So I decided to give it a go.

Immunet is unlike traditional antivirus products in which it doesn't take up to 14 days to gather, analyze and deliver updates. Immunet Protect antivirus software identifies viruses in real time and will continue to deliver antivirus protection via an Internet connection to its community of Immunet protect users. It operates on the Cloud.

It is not supposed to slow your computer down. However, after installation, everything slowed dramatically, and I had to restart my computer. After my restart, everything seems to be running fine, just as before I installed the software. So a heads up to anyone who downloads this, make sure to restart after installation. It doesn't prompt you to restart, but I recommend it.

The interface is nice, and pretty simple to understand. it tells you how much of your CPU it is using, as well as the memory (which isn't much). At the top, it shows how many people are protected, and how many threats to-date that it has protected against. You will see the last date/time the computer was scanned, and you can choose to scan anytime you want in between automatic scans.

So far, I have to say that I do like this program. I will let you know if I find anything that I don't like, or anything that worries me at all. But for now, I am satisfied. I recommend this to anyone who is in need of a virus protection software. For a years subscription, its under $20. Which compared to sites like Norton, is pretty cheap. Norton would be $50 for me to renew my subscription.

Immunet Calls on Moms, Dads & Social Leaders to Take on Community Challenge and Fight Digital Virus Pandemic!

To foster Collective Immunity against PC viruses, Immunet will give a prize to the person who best promotes Immunet Protect to their family, friends and associates in their online community

PALO ALTO, CA – January 17, 2011 – Immunet, the online security guardian to more than 750,000 moms, dads, kids and other dedicated community members worldwide, has kicked off a challenge to emphasize the importance of Collective Immunity™ for protecting whole communities’ PCs from computer viruses, botnets, worms, Trojans, spyware and keyloggers that can harm their computers or steal cherished digital memories and personal information.

The company is sponsoring a contest through February 28, 2011, to encourage everyday computer users to view the importance of protecting themselves and their online communities – family, friends, colleagues, neighbors –  from computer viruses the same way in which they would band together to restrict the spread of a dangerous illness. Immunet is inviting members of local communities across the U.S. and globally to “immunize” their PCs against the millions of viruses circulating in the Cloud by downloading Immunet Protect Free and then getting as many members of the their personal online community as they can to also download the free antivirus software.

During installation of Immunet Protect Free, there is a prompt to Share via Facebook. Anyone who wants to enter the contest should select this option and add their name at the beginning of the pre-populated text in the dialog window. All participants’ names will be entered automatically into the contest to win Immunet Protect Plus, a $19.95 value, for themselves and up to 50 members of their personal online community, plus a $100 cash award. The winner will be selected by a random drawing on March 2, 2011.

“PC computing has changed dramatically over the past few years from primarily desktop computing to a main way for keeping up with family and friends through sites like Facebook and Twitter, and for shopping and entertainment,” said Immunet founder and CEO Oliver Friedrichs, a former Symantec and McAfee security veteran and entrepreneur. “Unfortunately, the more websites people or their online friends visit, the more vulnerable their PCs become to being infected with all of the types of malicious malware that are floating around the Internet. We’re currently protecting PCs from more than 18 million Internet-based threats, yet industry estimates indicate that as many as 60 percent of PCs lack anti-virus protection.”

Immunet Protect Takes a “Real Time Community” Approach to Protecting PCs from Viruses

Founded by anti-virus pioneers, Immunet takes a “real-time community” approach to protecting PCs. Unlike traditional antivirus products, which reside on PC hard drives and take between one and 14 days to gather, analyze and deliver updates—often after the threat has mutated, Immunet Protect anti-virus software identifies viruses in real-time and continually delivers antivirus protection via an Internet connection to its community of Immunet Protect users.

Immunet’s Collective Immunity™ technology leverages the power of the Internet (the “Cloud”) to create a network protection effect that keeps Immunet Community members’ personal PCs and the computers of their friends and family safe online without the normal slowdowns and conflicts associated with traditional antivirus approaches. Each time a virus is blocked on one computer in the Immunet Community ALL other computers are instantly protected from the same virus, increasing the speed and level of virus protection with each new member. This collaborative approach uses “strength in numbers” that grows smarter with each new community member.

“Immunet protects your PC and the PCs of your personal online community — your friends, family and neighbors, who also happen to be the most likely sources of a virus infection,” said Friedrichs. “When Immunet detects a threat, everyone in the Immunet Community is immediately protected, simply by having Immunet installed. Contrast this to traditional anti-virus software that requires the latest download of anti-virus signatures, which can take days to become available after the threat appears.”
