Regarding the comments of the current Miss California

This was borrowed from www.perezhilton.com

Nicole Lamarche, Miss California 2003 and now an ordained minister at Cotuit Federated Church in Cotuit, Mass, is speaking out.

She says:

"As a pastor and a former Miss California, I am often asked to interpret what the Word of God has to say on a particular subject. I am quite confident that God prefers that we human beings stick to speaking for ourselves. And yet there are occasions when God’s Word is used as a weapon, and I feel compelled to speak.

In the past few days, much has been made of the words of Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean. She stated that marriage is between a man and a woman. I write not in response to her opinion, but rather about her comments that followed: that the Bible condones her words. She said, 'It's not about being politically correct, it's about being biblically correct.' While this sentiment is shared by many who seek to condemn gay people and gay marriage, citing pieces of the Bible to further one’s own prejudice fails to meet the Bible on its own terms.

Most people seeking to condemn gay people point to the Book of Leviticus, where we read that men lying with men is an abomination. However, we rarely hear of other verses found in the book of Leviticus that are equally challenging. For example, Leviticus also tells us that eating shrimp and lobster is an abomination. And that a person should not wear material woven of two kinds of material—an impossible mandate for a pageant contestant!

In Paul’s letter to the community in Corinth we read, ‘For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church….’ And yet these words have not prevented Christian denominations from ordaining women, such as myself. Sadly, the Bible has been used to further prejudice throughout history. We have used it to permit ourselves to enslave people; to conquer and kill; and to denigrate the earth.

The truth is that it is difficult to know for sure the intentions of the biblical authors, but we do know something about God. Those of us who know God through Jesus of Nazareth know that he went to great lengths to express God’s love to people who were labeled as outcasts. He spent time with children, prostitutes, and lepers, all of whom were labeled as outside of the grasp of the Holy. As we continue to seek God’s vision for us as a nation grounded in a love for justice, I pray that we might move closer to the cause of grace.”

Makeup tips!

Some tips to help all us women out!

Was watching Tyra Banks show, and found some things that I didnt know!

Liquid foundation - only is good for 3-6mos. after that, throw it out!

Powders (face, eyeshadow, etc) - good for 1 year! Yay!

Mascara - only good for 3 mos. Also - dont "pump" your mascara - it puts air bubbles in it, and that causes bacteria to form (can we say pink eye - at the very least!). Its best to kind of swish it around in the tube, then put it on!

Lipgloss and lipstick - Good for one year!

Lip liner and eyeliner - good for one year!

Cleansers and moisturizers - good for 6 mos. Then throw it out. It has stuff in it that naturally goes bad - just like food does! Gross.

Now you may be asking how would you keep track of how long you had your makeup for?? Well, buy those little colored stickers (think garage sale stickers lol) and place it on the bottom (or around if its like a eyeliner) . on the sticker, it should have the month / year that it should be thrown out. That will help keep you germ free! And your makeup wont get you sick!

Take care of your makeup girls (and some guys!)

Always
Jen.

Earth Day giveaway!

Hello all! I came across this great blog, and she has a post about a Earth Day giveaway she is doing. I entered, I hope I win.
Here is the link http://www.stlmommy.com/2009/04/disneynature-earth-giveaway.html

Now, as for Earth Day, we all need to do our part. Planting flowers and trees, gardens, veggie gardens, recycle, turn off some lights, ride a bike, carpool... just do something to help save our Earth. its the only one we got.. Unfortunately, we dont have the technology to live like the people in Wall-E. So we need to take care of this planet.

I plan on planting flowers with my 4 year old son. And I am going to be getting recycle bins to put on my back patio so we can recycle cans, plastics, and paper. We use enough of all 3 here to run my own recycle plant! Im going to start doing my part a little more than i have in the past..

Go Green! :D

Tired of telemarketers harrasing you???

Well I know I am! There is this great site, called CallHunter (link will be below). It is basically a directory of reported telemarketers, surveyors, scammers, and those of the such that have harassed customers.

What you do, is go to the site, put in the phone number of the telemarketer that has called. On that page, you will be able to see who all has reported this number.

For example - I used a number that has called me recently. 347-324-0340. On the page, it shows the following:
Where the call is coming from / who it is (if available).
Central Office: NWYRCYZN06, NY - GLOBAL CROSSING LOCAL SERVICES..
Then will list complaints / reports from customers. Go to the site and try it out for yourself.

On the home page, they have a few articles for you to read and learn info from. Like how debt collectors get your information - I know that I dont give them current info, but yet they always have it! Crazy! There is also information on Robocallers - for example, if the message is intended to be left on a voicemail - not for live person, they will hang up. Sometimes, the agent just isnt ready. So yelling through the phone really isnt necessary! As well as info from the FTC that telemarketers and bill collectors must call within times that are deemed convienent (example 8a-5p). There are lots of interesting facts in their articles.
I think everyone should have this website bookmarked so that when you recieve a call and you dont know who its from, you will be able to go back and see who it is, and leave a comment if you feel necessary.

Good luck to all!

Love biking? Heres a great site!

I came across this cute little shop! All for bikers! Helmets, racerback tanks, shoes, Oh my! If you love the top of the line products for all your biking needs - then definitely check out this site. And living in Arizona, I know there are several people that bike often out on Camelback Mountain.

This store has it all! From accessories, transportation, helmets, apparel, eyewear, footwear, hydration, nutrition, to shifters, tires, and wheels. Its got everything you need. No cutting corners here folks! On the home page, it states they LOVE new customers, and you get an Industry Insider Discount of 15% off your first order! Are you kidding me? Thats generous. No one else does this! Use coupon code MYSAGE when ordering - there is one downer - you cant use the discount on complete bikes. But still, thats a big discount on everything else.

I have to say, I am not a biker. I dont know squat about this stuff. But it was really easy to navigate the site, and it was very easy to find something - helmets and what not. The site even has a page for you to go ahead and see what other customers comments are. And of course, they are all great.

I found a phone number to call if you need help finding a product, suggestion, or just need help in general. As far as payment - you can use Paypal, Discover, Visa, Mastercard, Google checkout. They are a verified merchant.

All in all, I think the owner has a great thing going here. Again - I am not a biker, and some of this stuff was like a foreign language to me -but if I can figure it out, navigate, and find things super easy, I am sure that anyone else can as well.

The link below is for the site. Take a look for it yourself!

Ch-ch-check it out! cycling shoes

Love Arizona weather!

I have to admit, being from Northern Ohio, moving to Arizona didnt appeal to me. The heat everyone always talks about. Ugh! I visited Arizona once, and I just couldnt take it! It was sooo hot! The sun was so bright! I am not used to a sun that bright. Let me tell you - I did not want to leave the house. I did not want to do anything. I was happy to go back home.

A year later however, I moved to Arizona. At the time, it was partly for me, partly to get away from the snow!!! It takes some time to get used to the hot summer heat. If you plan on moving here, please do not move here in August / September. Those are the hottest months of the year! And, you cannot beat 80 degree days in March!!! No, I am not lying! It is amazing.

Imagine its March, and you are driving in your car, windows down, top down if you have a convertable, radio up, jamming to your favorite song in the world (or at least your favorite song for the moment). And when you come home, the windows are open, the breeze is just blowing through. Its unbelievable! I absolutly love it. I have been here in Arizona now since September 2004. And you get used to the heat... sorta. You still dread those 120 degree summer days. You still just want to stay inside and go no where - thats why I love Super Walmarts - they are open 24/7 and can go at night when the sun is down! I cant say enough how great it is!

If you are thinking about a change in scenery, you gotta consider Arizona. Now, dont go thinking its just a bunch of desert. No-sir-y. Theres lots of beautiful landscape, and the weather is just amazing all year round. Granted, we do get our rainy season. Lasts a few months - BUT, it really only rains maybe a week the entire season :)

I suggest checking out some info on Arizona relocation and look into the packages. Phoenix area is always booming and growing. Bigger and Bigger! Oh, and did I forget to mention - we have a light rail system now!!! Awesome!

Go to the site and see their current listings.

Let me finish by saying - you cant beat living in Arizona. The weather is awesome - can do pretty much anything any time of year - hiking, biking, walking, etc. I cant imagine going back to Ohio and being Ok. I dont know how to cope with anything under 60 degrees or so! Its crazy! When it does get below 60, I am getting my hoodie ready to go. I know it sounds completely ridiculous. But its utterly true! In the months of Nov, Dec, and Jan - it is FREEZING if the sun is not up. Once dark hits - I swear you need gloves! I know.. Crazy. But thats why people only come here during summer months lol....

You cannot "relate" Arizona weather to anywhere. Im sorry. You just cant. You need to come here, and experience it for yourself.

But all joking aside... Arizona really cannot be beat... Its the best of both worlds... If you miss the snow, take a 2 or 3 hour drive up north and go to Flagstaff to see the snow...
